Did you know that for centuries, red (and pink) was forbidden for women?
The reason behind this was the association of red with violence and strength, which was considered inappropriate for the “weaker sex”.
It took hundreds of years for women to break this convention and embrace these colors.
If you look at paintings from centuries ago, women wearing red are a rarity (the Virgin Mary is pretty much always wearing a blue outfit), with the exception of a few. On the other hand, red and pink were commonly worn by men, including the famous pink stockings of Louis XIV.
In honor of Women’s Month (March), let’s break these outdated conventions and embrace the power of red and pink.
